Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois

The beautiful city of Chicago has many sights and sounds, but out of all the colossal size buildings and attractions, Navy Pier stands out above everything. Navy Pier located off of Lake Michigan is one of Chicago’s most popular tourist attractions, offering rides, Navy Pier shopping, parks, and historic Navy Pier scenery. Navy Pier attracts over 8 million tourists every year and for good reason: Navy Pier builders are constantly adding new attractions around Navy Pier, and this keeps the public excited about the innovative developments that continue to take place at Navy Pier. Navy Pier also has a fascinating history, dating back to World War I.

Back in the late 1700’s, Jean Baptiste Point du Sable realized the potential for a great city located along the waterfront known today as Lake Michigan. Chicago began to prosper as a settlement, when Fort Dearborn was established, giving the location public attention as a good center for transportation. The development of the Illinois and Michigan Canal augmented this growth, and the creation of the Union Stockyards back in 1865 gave this settlement the ability to transport livestock throughout the country. By 1909, Chicago was really taking off from a commercial standpoint, but government officials feared further lakefront property development, because they did not want to destroy the natural beauty of the settled region. A man by the name of Daniel Burnham came up with the solution to this problem by offering government officials a plan to build a series of piers to be used for a variety of purposes. Burnham came up with five layouts, but only Municipal Pier, which would later become known as Navy Pier to honor World War I veterans, passed.

Today Navy Pier is one of Chicago’s most popular tourist attractions. There are over 50 acres of gorgeous Navy Pier parks and numerous entertainment attractions to keep visitors coming. Visitors can play in the water at Gateway Park, where over 240 jet airplanes spout water into the air. Gateway Park has beautiful benches, where you can sit and relax, while enjoying the scenic trees that dot the Lake Michigan landscape. The Pier also has an Imax theatre, numerous rides, including a huge Ferris wheel that towers above. Visitors can also enjoy Skyline Stage, an outdoor theatre that hosts many productions with comfortable seating, along with a heating and cooling system to keep tourists cozy throughout the changing seasons. In the wintertime, Skyline Stage becomes an ice-skating rink for tourists. who want to give this wonderful activity a whirl. In fact, Skyline Stage transforms throughout the year, becoming a ghoulish haunted place during Halloween, and a gorgeous Christmastime sight when hundreds of Christmas trees are hauled in and decorated for all to enjoy. The list of exciting attractions on Navy Pier is exhaustive, and includes Chicago charter boat corporate events, Chicago charter boat corporate events, Chicago charter boat wedding events, Chicago charter boat sailing events, Chicago charter boat fishing events, Chicago charter boat family events, and Chicago charter boat school events, so you will never be bored.
