Yachts have been around for over 3000 years, but their use and function has changed quite a bit over time. The word “yacht” comes from the Dutch language meaning to “hunt” or “big ship”. Pleasure yachting was primarily a sport associated with the wealthy during this time, because of the expense and extreme manpower needed to run these large boats. Yachting became very popular during the late Victorian Era (1837-1901). Even Queen Victoria owned several sail and steam yachts, which she used to take her family on boat party events around the Isle of Wight. Today, yachting has become a popular sport, and many individuals enjoy the wonderful pastime of sailing these vessels in races or for just pleasure cruising.

There are many different kinds of Chicago charter boats, but most fall into two categories: sailing yachts and power yachts. Many of these yachts have the basic necessities needed by the crew, but luxury is not the main goal here.

Power yachts are powered by a motor and are usually much larger than the typical sailing yacht. These boats are generally more expensive than the typical sailing yacht, but offer ample space for long trips. Most fall within the range of 30 to 100 feet in length, but some can reach amazing lengths of over 400 feet! Many power yachts are comparable to small cruise ships, and they are primarily used for luxury purposes.
